Samsung patents contact lenses with built-in camera

Smart Contact Lenssamsung has registered a new patent in South Korea for the smart contact lens with a display that projects images directly into the eye of the wearer. Embedded camera and sensors can be controlled only by the blink of an eye.

In addition, there is also a growing antenna which then shone content to an external device such as a smartphone for processing. Samsung began developing smart contact lenses as a means to create an augmented reality experience that is better than the people who use Google Glass.

Smart contact lens will allow AIR to be projected directly into someone’s eyes and become more visible at the same time. However, not all blink to react on contact lens, only a few flickering movement alone that allows contact lens can be controlled.
There is also a feature which is owned by Google Glass, which allows capturing images with just a blink of an eye. Although, features a more reasonable possible to use a smartphone as a touchpad to move around the interface.
Looks like Samsung is not the only one interested in making smart contact lens becomes a reality. Google has two patents for smart contact lens with flexible electronics and sensors that read chemicals in the tear fluid of the wearer’s eyes to determine whether their blood sugar levels have fallen to a level that is fatal.

Interestingly enough, Samsung applying for a patent smart contact lens in 2014, the same year when Google received a patent in the US for the smart contact lens. Although Samsung has been granted a patent, it is not definitive proof that the company will release consumer products of its patents.
